What are Schematic Drawings?
Schematic Drawings are clearly detailed diagrams of an electrical or mechanical system. They are a top-level focus drawing and describe how something works and/or how individual parts interface.
Schematic drawings are often used in a concept or early design stage to outline a design and its principles.

How do we produce Schematics?
Our input information
For schematics, we would usually work from hand-drawn sketches or old CAD data. The sketches can be provided in paper, image or PDF format.
Drafting Schematics
We will create electrical and mechanical diagrams in CAD. These are usually created in a 2D format using Software such as AutoCAD. We will use standardised symbols from our symbol library or (should this be requested) your standard symbols.
What kind of schematics do we produce
We are able to draft schematics from scratch based on sketches or revise existing schematics to as-installed based on red-line mark-ups. We will produce electrical schematics, mechanical schematics and piping instrumentation diagrams (P&ID).

Electrical & Mechanical Schematics
Electrical & Communication Schematics
An Electrical Schematics is a wiring diagram, a simple visual representation of the physical connections and physical layout of an electrical system or circuit. The CAD Drawing shows how the electrical wires are interconnected and can also show where fixtures and components may be connected to the system.
These types of wiring diagrams are used for products as well as for Building Services for lighting, data, access control and small/mains power.
Mechanical Schematics
Mechanical schematics are diagrams which represent the construction of a system. For products, they can show how the individual components interact with each other. Within the Building Services Industry, they show how mechanical systems such as HVAC, heating and domestic water are connected.

As-Installed Schematics
At Restoric Design our CAD drafting team will update 2D Schematics as record drawings based on red-line mark-ups. These are an essential part of O&M Manuals.

Why 2D CAD drafting is still important
When most people think of CAD and CAM today, they think of 3D printers or ultra-precise machining. After all, we live in a 3D world, so the concept of 2D CAD can seem outdated. However, there is still a range of use cases for 2D CAD drafting, including mechanical,...
